Prague

One of the rare good things about my school is the fact that it organises plenty trips all over Europe. Thus we spent the last 4 days of April in Prague and its suburbs. As always, the standard overnight bus ride was hell and the rain that welcomed us the moment we arrived to the Karlštejn castle didn't aid the mood. There was a tour booked in Karlštejn, which took us through the castle and its history. It was built in the 14. century by Charles IV. with the purpose of holding/storing the czech crown jewels. Afterwards we hit the hotel, had dinner and called it a day.

The next morning was spent in Hradčane - one of the largest castle complexes in the world, situated on top of a hill overlooking the heart of Prague. We spent our time freezing in the church, the king's palace and the slightly claustrophobic Golden Lane, which isn't at all golden. Around midday, we took to the centre of Prague by crossing the river Vltava over the Charles bridge. There we checked out the Old Town Hall and the Astronomical Clock and later went hunting for souvenirs.

Day number 3 was dedicated to the cultural heritage of Prague. The morning was spent in the Franz Kafka museum, where we were surprised by light snowing and an odd fountain of two men peeing. We also got an insight into the life and work of the literary mastermind. Next on the agenda was the National museum which held an exhibition on the animal kingdom. After the Sun set we paid a visit to the Križik fountains, where we watched water's interpretations of selected musicals.
Before returning to Slovenia on the last day, wo took a tour through the czech Krumlov castle.

I must admit that I was left a bit disappointed by Prague, and one of the major reasons for that is the fact that I had my expectations set too high. The city centre was quite nice, however nothing too special. I can't say much about the castles because unfortunately the Neuschwanstein castle in Germany has destroyed all my standards and made all the other castles look like lego houses.

What is your opinion on Prague?

x, Valens
